The world is always chaotic. The world is always uncertain. But 2020, you win.
A University of Vermont led study found that the English speaking world’s overall happiness has been steadily declining over the last 5 years. However, it’s no surprise that the lowest lows have been in 2020.
2020 has been STRESSFUL.
I remember when I was teaching in Philly in 2008 at the time of the housing crash. For a moment, we were worried that people wouldn’t have the means, the time or the energy for yoga; however, our classes were busier and larger than ever.
Yoga is grounding. Yoga does not, on its own, make our world a better place. But when we prioritize our practice, we soothe our jittery nervous systems, and we are more able to show up in effective ways in our community.
2020 is reminding me again and again we must seek the peace we need inside ourselves so that we can be present for the work that is needed in our world.
